CHF WEEKLY ROUND-UP: March 4-8, 2024

Canadian markets have had a positive week, rising 1.3%. They are at a year-high and approaching an all-time high. On Wednesday, the Bank of Canada (BoC) held its policy rate steady at 5% for a fifth consecutive meeting, stating that it’s still “too early” to consider rate cuts.

In the U.S., the market continues to hold on at all-time highs, with the S&P 500 remaining in the range of 5100. Interestingly, according to regulatory filings, certain insiders at AI powerhouse Nvidia have sold approximately US$180 million worth of stock in the company recently. Is that a sign of a top? Fed Chair Jerome Powell remarked that policymakers are “not far” from having the confidence that inflation is sustainably easing. While this was seen as fueling hopes for rate cuts this year, there were also predictions of no cuts and staying higher for longer, given the strength of the U.S. economy. The U.S. dollar has been weaker for 2 weeks, falling almost to the level at the start of the year.

The world’s miners and explorers were gathered in Toronto this week, and, right on cue, Gold made the move through $2,100/oz, reaching as high as $2,181 overnight before pulling back this morning. Silver opened as high as $24.58 this morning before falling to $24.48. Share prices of major producers and some mid-sized companies have been seen to be moving up. Junior exploration companies have not felt the benefit of the higher prices yet.

Some positive influence is being seen in most base metals but no surge yet. Battery materials continue to struggle despite a 1-2 % increase in Lithium pricing.

It has been an interesting and productive week for our clients, and we are pleased to present to you our round-up of their news released between March 4-8, 2024.

On March 4, 2024, Falcon Gold Corp. (TSX-V: FG) (GR:3FA) (OTCQB: FGLDF) announced that the Company has received drill permit approval to conduct a diamond drilling program at its Great Burnt Copper Project in central Newfoundland. The property will be explored for its potential to host orogenic gold and copper-bearing massive sulphide mineralization that may contain gold. The Company initially plans to test up to ten geophysical anomalies with a maximum of 1100 metres of drilling.

Falcon’s claims overlie the northern continuation of the conductive trend, which is associated with lithologies that host the copper-rich Great Burnt and the gold-rich South Pond deposits held by Benton Resources/Spruce Ridge Resources, Great Burnt Copper-Gold joint venture. The northern conductive trend has never been drill-tested or subjected to any systematic exploration program. Desktop studies have identified nine geophysical targets (see dots on the map) within Falcon’s project that are drill-ready.
